Disappearing Penguins

Antarctica's great Southern Ocean is the last pristine ocean wilderness left on Earth. This year leaders from 25 countries have an opportunity to create the world's largest marine sanctuaries around Antarctica. The proposals are in front of them, the science has been done, all they need to do is say YES. Tell our leaders to make the right decision when they meet this year and protect these waters for future generations.

A GREAT PHOTOGRAPHER, A GREAT PENGUIN LOVER!

SEALS
Although there are 35 species of seals, only six types live in Antarctica: Antarctic Fur Seals, Crabeater Seals, Leopard Seals, Ross Seals, and Weddell Seals. However, these six species make up the majority of the world's seal population. With no natural land predators, such as polar bears or man, Antarctic seals behave much differently than northern seals. They don't fear man.

LOOK AT THE ARM & HAND SCRATCHING HIS CHEST

As I stood there very close to the seal for a long time, I watched in wonder as she used her arm, hand and nails to scratch her breast area. Look at THAT ARM (fin)! It is SO human like! Five fingers, too! Did that used to be human, or did humans start out like these seals, or is it somewhere in between?

Those who study animals come to realize how many similarities there are between the animal kingdom and the human animal species and as time goes on we have realized that animals communicate just like we do, using a foreign language we do not understand. It is a curious puzzle and just maybe our deep interest in other animal species stems not just from fascination and compassion, but maybe it stems from a deep, latent, DNA, altruistic oneness.

It is difficult to deny all the sameness we share, but as with each other, we often choose to see the other as odd or different or inhuman, as we say. A question remains. HOW ARE ALL LIVING ANIMAL SPECIES SO SIMILAR?

KRILL

All the above Antarctica animals live either wholly or partially on KRILL. Over fishing the waters of Antarctica and dumping chemicals, garbage and sewage into the oceans are beginning to take a toll on the KRILL population, which accounts for why some Antarctica penguin species have already declined by half!

KRILL are the bottom line.
Without KRILL at the bottom of the food chain,
the entire food web begins to die.
